Fun fact(s): Ipe wood is so dense it actually sinks in water.  It is rated as a Class-A fire-resistant material.  Ipe was used in the construction of the Panama Canal.

    • Native to: The American tropics and subtropics from Mexico and the Caribbean to Argentina.

    • Colour: Vary in colour from reddish-brown to a more yellowish olive. brown or darker blackish brown; sometimes with contrasting darker brown/black stripes.

    • Uses: Ipe wood is very commonly used in woodworking for indoor and outdoor flooring, as well for furniture production. Well-made and maintained exterior decking and siding made from strong and durable Ipe wood can last up to 50 years. Ipe is also commonly used in the creation of stairs or stair handrails.

    • Properties: Ipe wood structures are hard, strong, and naturally resistant to rot, abrasion, weather, and insects. It is almost twice as dense as most woods and up to five times harder.
